Kite poetry
Kite poetry has been variously described as:
- a poor man's haiku; and
- a window into eternity brought to true artistic sublimation by the genius of Billy O'Flagherty.
The strength of kite poetry is its strict and uncompromising adherance to two principles:
- rigour of form; and
- simplicity of content.
This form is defined simply by the number of syllables in each line, as follows:
I
I I
I I I
I I I I
I I I I I
I I I I
I I I
I I
I
(Technical note: the above, and the poems themselves, look best when viewed with a browserwith text centring capability such as theNetscape Navigator 2.0).
Appropriate content is less easy to define but,
like haiku,
kite poems often offer an alternative view of a seemingly
mundane situation.
